Step out from the platform of Venezia Santa Lucia terminal and onto the walkway of the Grand Canal. There you will find yourself in another dimension, a world rich in history, architecture and colour, all mirrored in a maze of canals. The church of S. Simeon Piccolo, directly in front of you, is but one of many beautiful pieces of architecture you will see on your journey to your hotel.

Venice and her lagoons have for centuries aroused a strong passion and pride in its people and been a source of inspiration, fascination and ecstasy to visitors. We as artists are in the most fortunate position of being able to capture these feelings and express them in just a simple sketch or record them for posterity in oil or watercolour.

The lagoon's lonely dreamy peace, like a painting by Carpaccio, is soon unexpectedly shattered by a piece of picturesque impertinence. Was it really the need to recognise their own house (some say own wife) that made the inhabitants of Burano paint their houses in such bright colours? It is a fact that the reflections in the waters which break up with every ripple, produce unpredictable colours, which at dawn and sunset dissolve to create fairy-tale effects. Undoubtedly these attracted and inspired the turn-of-the-century “impressionist” painters.

This is one of the most important fishing centres in the area in every day production. There are as many as nine bridges, which, on the Vena Canal, connect the two main islands which make up the town of Chioggia. The combination of colourful working fishing boats, bridges and waterways present wonderful opportunities to explore your creative interpretation in oil, watercolour or other preferred medium.
During your workshop you will visit and work on both the islands of Burano and Chioggia.
